It’s Festival Season in the Mountains

We’re quick to celebrate here in the mountains. And if it’s fall, you can bet there’s a festival, showcase or special event happening somewhere! Mark your calendar
now to attend:

Oct. 3-7: Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall

The Kiwanis Fairgrounds will host this 3/5-scale mobile replica of the stunning Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. It stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end. The Wall serves as a reminder of the many sacrifices made during the Vietnam War.

Oct. 5: Home Builders Showcase

Stop by the Downtown Blue Ridge City Park to meet builders and get all the information you need for buying, building and renovating your mountain home.

Oct. 5-6: Indian Summer Festival

Take the scenic drive out to Suches for some local arts & crafts, tasty treats and family activities on the grounds of Georgia’s smallest public school.

Oct. 5-6: Georgia Marble Festival

Celebrate the historic Georgia marble industry, which has provided building materials for such noted structures as the New York Stock Exchange, Lincoln Memorial and other landmarks. Don’t miss the road race and parade on Saturday!

Oct. 11-19: Georgia Mountain Fall Festival

On the shores of Lake Chatuge, the fairgrounds are home to an old-fashioned Appalachian village, live music, demonstrations, arts & crafts vendors and delicious festival food.

Oct. 12-13: Fall Arts in the Park

This biannual art show draws thousands to the Downtown Blue Ridge City Park for the best in fine arts & crafts, demon­strations and fair food.

Oct. 12-20: Georgia Apple Festival

The largest mountain festival is a nonstop ode to everything apple!

Oct. 12-20: Sorghum Festival

Blairsville celebrates its heritage with square dancing, biscuit eating, pole climbing, log sawing and, of course, sorghum mill grinding, cooking and tasting!

Oct. 19-20: Paws in the Park

Enter your favorite pooch in the costume contest, join the pet parade, get a photo of your pet and watch the dock diving dogs!

Oct. 19-20: Punkin Chunkin Festival

How far can a pumpkin fly? Find out when they’re hurled through the air by a variety of homemade catapults! You’ll also find music, crafts and fun games.

Oct. 26: Appalachian Brew, Stew & Que Festival

Bring on dozens of craft beer vendors, plus plenty of barbecue and stew to take you through the day.

Oct. 26: Vogel State Park Fall Festival

This state park gem lies in the mountains south of Blairsville. Come for the festival, stay for the changing leaves, lake fishing, hiking paths and waterfall.

 

Santa & Mrs. Claus arrive by train for Light Up Blue Ridge on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Nov. 30: Light Up Blue Ridge

Ring in the holiday season with a parade, lighting of the Great Tree and, of course, visits with Santa!

Dec. 7: Holiday on the Square

Get in the holiday spirit with a parade, carolers, music and a visit with Santa … all on the Square in Downtown Blairsville.

Dec 14: Vogel State Park Tree Lighting

Enjoy an evening of fellowship and celebration of the true meaning of Christmas. Hayrides, music and activities lead up to the Christmas program and lighting of the tree.

Feb. 15: Fire & Ice Chili Cook-Off

Hot & spicy chili meets frozen ice sculptures at this fun and unique downtown event.

Feb. 28-Mar. 1: Blue Ridge Film Festival

Blue Ridge is destined to be the next “Sundance,” thanks to the newest festival coming in 2020!
